Event Security Vancouver
Event security is always a complex project for Cynergy and it entails far more than just having security personnel scattered around the venue. It requires extensive coordination and communication to ensure the safety of guests and staff. We at Cynergy cannot emphasize how important event security is, to check attendees and manage the crowd. An injury to a guest or damage to property can have serious legal, financial, and PR repercussions. Below, we will discuss the basics on how Cynergy manages the crowd and ensures everybody enjoys themselves at the event.
EVENT SECURITY LOGISTICS
Before the event
Firstly we do a brainstorming session where we all come together to arrange a plan and the logistics of the event. Here we discuss our resources and requirements. Every venue requires a different strategy be it an indoor or outdoor setting. Each venue is unique and requires a specific on-site strategy which may often result in the need for additional equipment. We always ensure we have enough resources and extra. If possible, we always try to set up a few days before an event to ensure everything is running smoothly. If some points cannot be completed until the day of the event then it is important to ensure there is a step-by-step checklist during setup.
Event day
Know the Venue
We identify all possible venue entry and exits points including staff doors. This may include a back door reserved for staff, or a window that can be opened from the outside. Once all entry and exit points are identified it is vital for all personnel and the security team to be made aware of these. Maps and diagrams are a vital asset for the security team. If the venue is outdoors, it is important to establish boundaries where the event perimeter begins and ends through the use of temporary fencing and barricades.
Attendee Risk
We always do our research and identify the type of crowd that goes to these events and if they may cause risk to other attendees or guests. Or perhaps there’s a performer or guest speaker that may increase the risk of protests or attendees who may attend just to cause confrontation.
Control the Crowd
The larger the crowd, the more likely it is that something can go wrong. Staff needs to be trained in managing large numbers of people and exerting authority when need be. The security team may need to perform the following with respects to crowd management:
● Ask guests to move away if blocking the exit.
● Monitor the registration line to keep it organized and prevent people from cutting.
● Ensure guests don’t stray into staff-only areas or areas reserved for VIP.
● Never let the crowd in the venue to grow beyond the capacity limit.
● Count all staff and security personnel when keeping track of total numbers to avoid fines
Assess the Potential for Large-Scale Attacks
Big crowds are an easy target for large scale attacks, armed security personnel are generally recommended for larger events. All guests will be body scanned and bags checked for any potential weapons or forbidden items.
Suspicious Behaviour
All of the security should be on the lookout for suspicious or abnormal behaviour. It is vital for our security to be aware of suspicious activity outside of the event grounds too.
This includes:
● Constantly staring at staff
● Lack of engagement in the event
● Scanning venue layout
Communication Tight
Communication amongst all security professionals is spot on at all times including walkie-talkies always present. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the security team and our security and company staff should always be in communication.
